The Esports Integrity Commission confirmed this week it is reviewing “irregular betting patterns” across four matches in a European League of Legends minor league, after two member bookmakers independently reported suspicious volume on map-handicap markets.
The flagged matches involved bottom-half teams in dead rubbers — the classic profile for manipulation, where competitive stakes are low and salaries lower. No players or teams have been named, and a review is not a finding of wrongdoing.
Minor leagues remain esports betting’s structural weak point. Tier-one players earn too much to risk for a fixed map; tier-three players sometimes earn less than the volume wagered on their matches. Books that offer deep markets on minor leagues are taking integrity risk along with the action.
For bettors, flagged-league markets are a trap even when you’re not the one fixing: lines move on information you can’t see. Several of the books in our rankings suspended the affected league’s markets within hours — a response we factor into our trust scores.
We will follow the investigation’s findings when ESIC publishes them.
